Activity Description

  • In this activity, students will be working in groups to reach the same goal of keeping the beach ball from falling on the ground.
  • Students will be asked to line up in 4 groups of about 7 students
  • *Students will be asked to remember who their group members are*
  • The teacher will then pair 2 groups together & have them line up in around the large circle formed by a jump rope.
  • Each student will pick up & hold onto the jump rope using only 1 hand.
  • Students will have to keep the beach ball in the air without letting go of the jump rope, forcing them to work together & move together to keep the beach ball in the air.
  • *If the beach ball falls inside the circle, one student may pick it up & restart, if the beach ball falls outside the circle, the teacher will pick it up & restart for the group.*
  • There will be a different goal/variation in each round. (2mins each)
    1. Round 1: Everyone in the group must touch the beach ball at least once.
    2. Round 2: Everyone in the group must touch the beach ball at least once using their non-dominant hand.
    3. Round 3: Everyone in the group must touch the beach ball at least once, “Soccer-Style”, using only their heads, feet, or knees. Thus leading up to the main activity.
  • *Students will be asked to restart if the beach ball falls or a student does not follow the current variation in each round*
