Zoo Safari Yoga

Objectives

  • Motor: Students will hold the giraffe pose while standing up straight while arms are fully extended vertically for 20 seconds during the activity in ¾ trial when verbally prompted by the instructor.
  • Cognitive: Students will be able to identify a series of poses to which animal it corresponds to when shown an image of the pose during the reflection portion of the activity, when verbally prompted
  • Affective: Students will give themselves a high five with a verbal prompt at the end of the activity.
  • Skills Acquired: Static stretching, Flexibility, lifetime skills

Activity Description

  • The instructor will introduce the activity that is being taught which is Zoo Adventure Yoga. The instructor will explain that students will be doing a series of yoga poses that will correspond to a certain zoo animal. There will be two images/poses to let students choose whichever they feel confident/comfortable performing, for a duration of thirty seconds for each animal.

Yoga Poses:

  • Monkey: Students will have feet a little past their shoulders with apart, with a slight lunge with their dominant foot. Arms will be horizontal with shoulders.

  • Hippo: Students will sit on their knees and lean their body forward towards the ground. Arms will be close and parallel to legs.

  • Giraffe: Student will stand up straight, and have arms reaching the sky vertically.

  • Panda: Student will place lets wide past shoulder width apart, and arms will be up high diagonally lining up with opposite legs.
