Students will first practice a warm-up to salsa music so they can get familiar with the rhythm of the class. The instructor will then teach some simple salsa steps with a focus on partnering and musicality. Students will then rehearse these steps on their own and perform a partner dance.
Introduction to Salsa: Begin by introducing the students to the history and cultural significance of salsa dancing. This can include the origins of salsa and its importance in Latin American culture
Basic Salsa Steps: Teach the basic salsa steps, which typically include the "forward and back basic," "side basic," and "cumbia step." Break down each step and practice them with the students
Rhythm and Timing: Emphasize the importance of rhythm and timing in salsa music and dance. Encourage the students to feel the beat and move in sync with the music
Partnering: If appropriate for the age group, introduce the concept of partnering in salsa dancing. Teach simple partner moves such as the open frame and closed frame to give the students a sense of dancing together
Body Movement: Focus on the hip and shoulder movements that are characteristic of salsa dancing. Encourage the students to practice these movements and incorporate them into their basic steps
Practice and Performance: Allow the students to practice the basic steps and movements individually and in pairs. Consider organizing a simple performance for the students to showcase what they have learned.
