Ireland-Tap Dance

Lesson Background

Irish tap dance, also known as Irish step dance, is a traditional dance form originating from Ireland. It is characterized by rapid, rhythmic foot movements and precise steps. Dancers perform intricate patterns and sequences, creating a symphony of sound by striking the floor with specially designed shoes featuring metal taps on the toes and heels. Irish tap dance has a rich history and is deeply rooted in Irish culture, often showcased during cultural events and competitions, notably the Irish dance competitions known as feiseanna. The dance form gained international recognition and popularity, particularly due to performances like Riverdance, which helped bring Irish tap dance to a global audience.
